January has been quite slow on buying records. Still waiting for my package from SB (... with some great albums in it). But I got this one three days ago; Produced by Don Mais. Haven't heard anything from it prior to buying it - bought it simply based on the excellent cover art of Jamaal Pete (anyone that has any info on him?). The music was definitely good though. A little too young John with some dodgy singing at parts but the sheer enthusiasm he puts on the music is enough to balance it up.

the mailman delivered this years first mailer yesterday ..some good tunes in it too! nothing rare or so, just some new and maybe not so new roots. dan i - jah love (ghetto city productions 7") - italian singer an production. probably my fav artist at the moment ..every tune is a winner it seems. dennis brown - want more (high steppers 7") - mafia & fluxy production on this steppas reworking of marleys tune. as always with m&f the production is rock solid. dennis browns voice seems a little pitched tho.. creole - jah creation (channel one/pressure sounds 7") - i´m a little late, i know.. wayne mcarthur - victory dance/unification (reggae remedy 12") - this one has an interesting riddim...some how it kind of reminds me of wicked rule by martin campbell.. this is the kind of tune that is obviously meant for play in session rather than on your home hi-fi. prince david - flying away (moa anbessa 12") - yet more italian roots music. featured are six mixes on the same riddim with vocal cuts by prince david, well jahdgment, sister 40 and off course dan i. highly recommended stuff. dan i - find a solution/hotta fire (imperial roots 12") - hehe ..adesso basta! irieland music - jah soldier (one drop 10") - this is the ruler ..straight outa germany (!). grab it while you can, mine´s 99/250. wicked tune this, with possibly the best pressing i´ve heard on vinyl.

Yeah, Green Valley is really nice. However I think it's the weaker album of the two released by Militant Barry. I don't know why this one is more talked about than Militant Style - perhaps it's because Green Valley is produced by Keith Hudson or that Militant Style just isn't that known. Today I got;

Today I got; I guess you're right about the Kieth Hudson part. I agree about Militant Style, it's great, in fact, both LPs are wonderful. AS for the new purchase, Captain Sinbad and Peter Metro are two of my all time favorite DJs (alongside Early B, Kojak. Admiral Bailey and Tonto Irie).

Record fair again today, where I also met a friend with some nice reserved items for me (from my previous 'opinions on' thread). Fun days! ;D

Wow! Nice catch. Some great albums there. Love »5 the Hard Way«, Sinbad, »In the Light« and the Tigers (haven't heard »Touch Is a Move«).
Never heard the »Michael Palmer Meets Silly Ranks (?) at Channel One«. When was it released and how does it sound? What titles are the discos?
Myself I've gotten some nice records but haven't had the time to scan them yet. Just a selected few. I'll try to scan them the coming days.

Cheers kalcidis. Yeah, I was well pleased with the overall quality of the music on first round through it (skipping through all fast to get a first impression). Was very happy to find the Horace Andy, great album and usually expensive on ebay (same with Paro Them Paro).
The 5 The Hard Way you recommended is a wicked set. Familiar riddims and very nice toasting. Can't say what the favourites are now, didn't listen closely enough for that, but with the exception of Major Worries' Twist And Rock, all tracks sounded excellent.
The Greensleeves 12's in the pic are:
Michael Prophet - Help Them Please b/w Wailing Souls - See Baba Joe
and
King Kong - Paro Them Paro b/w Bubblers Computer Stars - Paranoia
The Michael Palmer meets Kelly Ranks record is from 1985, Roots Radics, mixed by Peter Chemist and obviously recorded at Channel 1. Has a nice early 80s sound, 4 tracks each with only one or two familiar riddim. Kelly Ranks is a male deejay (at first I thought it would be a female). All in all a nice LP from what I've heard so far, laid back rub-a-dub. Although both Michael Palmer and Kelly Ranks aren't top class vocalists imo, it's a very nice addition to the collection!
Tiger's Touch Is A Move is on Super Power with Steelie & Cleavie responsible for the music. From 1990. Not gave it a proper spin yet, but Tiger is a wicked deejay imo, so I'm sure there'll be a few nice tunes at least.
(Would be nice to see your scans, I love to see the covers of all those albums. I don't scan 'm, I just take a picture without flash and reduce 'm in size.)
