Tickets go on sale this month for this year's Boss Sounds Reggae Festival which takes place on the 18th and 19th October at the Newcastle Carling Academy, Artists lined up to appear include, the world's greatest rhythm section Sly and Robbie, creators of the Dub Side of the Moon, Easy Star All Stars and rising star Natty. A new development for this year will be the Sound System Room with Iration Steppas lined up to headline live and direct with ear-shattering sound systems.
Once again the Jumpin' Hot Club has chosen the acoustic brilliance of Hall Two in the Sage Gateshead to launch the Boss Sounds Reggae Festival. This year's launch brings together two of Jamaica's greatest roots artists, the Abyssinians and Dillinger.
The Abyssinians are one of reggae's premier vocal harmony trios. Famous for their anthem Satta Massa Gana, recorded on Coxsone Dodd's Studio One label, it is regarded by many as the greatest roots song of all time. Another of their finest tracks is, "Declaration of Rights" the instrumental of which has been versioned by almost every great Jamaican producer. This the original line up of the band founded in 1968, Bernard Collins, Linford and Donald Manning. Sublime roots, rock, reggae.
Dillinger is one of the last exponents of the classic Jamaican DJ style, his worldwide smash, "Cocaine in my Brain" established his credentials as one of reggae's greatest stars. Dillinger started his career as Alcapone Jnr until Lee "Scratch" Perry told him, "You're not Alcapone, you're Dillinger". One of the greatest toasters together with roots reggaes premier vocal trio, a superb double bill and a must for all reggae fans.
