Very difficult (maybe) ... but pick your favourite half-decade of Jamaican musical history.
For me: 1982-1986 inclusive.
I wanted 1981 but I'll settle for being able to take 1986 instead. 1985 was the year that I dramatically increased my listening to reggae and I love the first couple of years of digital but I want to reach back to incorporate some of those classic Roots Radics sessions with Henry 'Junjo' Lawes and Linval Thompson.
My runner up: 1973-1977. A substantial chunk of the roots era. I'd probably give you 1977 if I could add 1981 to my first choice.

The most musically intense periods for me are- the wild and happy Ska period just before Don Drummond was hospitalized, the late '70s 'psychedelic' roots and 'crying' DJs period, Junjo/Linval/Scientist/Radics taking the music to its extremes and bare essentials, the early Jammy/Tubby Digital with it's endless invetiveness, sweetness, creativity and humor.
I guess each is about three years long. Pretty hard to choose between them.

Easy ! 1965 - 1970 ( up to '73, i'd say, but that's cheating)
second would probably be 1993 - 1998.

I couldn't limit it to any five year period. I'd say that most of the music that came out between 1960 to 1985 is worth hearing.

It just occurred to me that 65-70 is six years so I'll say 66-70.

On second thoughts : 1) 1962 - 1966 / 1967 - 1971 (72 would be left all alone, very sad, indeed ! Let's say 1962-1972 is my fave decade, then !) 3) 1994 / 1998
