Mostly recent acquisitions. I could list them but I'm feeling lazy .. Apologies to anyone who prefers looking at vinyl. I haven't played any since last thursday.

How does the Patti Drew collection sound? Didn't know Jus Allah had released an album ... and what about the album beneath it?

Greetings Freddy C, please give a critique on that Sugar Minott and Easy B. Sugar's always been a fav of mine. Saw him live last summer @ SNWMF along with his daughter, Passion. They both lit up the stage. U ever heard Hard Time Pressure w/ Captain Sinbad? His voice is so sweet in that 1.

The Patty Drew is excellent - 24 tracks, great booklet and retails for about £6 on Amazon UK and I paid less on the marketplace. (cheapskate ;D) Jus Allah's album is a bit of a mixed bag - about six older tracks from the period after he left Jedi Mind Tricks (he's rejoined) are tacked on at the end and make some of the best on the album IMO. Not all of the newer tracks are totally my cup of tea, production-wise but it's as dark as you'd expect. The one beneath it - Big Black - Steve Albini's old band. Analogue recording guru and highly influencial noisemeister. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_albini

Hi Riffy, King Son is mostly early songs from his African Brothers period and shares a few tracks with the "Want Some Freedom" compilation but there are plenty that I haven't seen on other collections. I don't know why "All Kinda People" didn't make it onto that "Want Some Freedom" - it's on the "Mr Fire Coal Man" riddim and is essential. there's not a great deal of info. in the booklet and I think that the British label, Smugg who issued it may be defunct. Here are the tracks: All Kinda People (with African Brothers) Righteous Kingdom (with African Brothers) Youths Of Today (with African Brothers) The Struggle Evening Time You Tried To Hurt Me Lead Us Father (with African Brothers) Fight Rasta King Son (with African Brothers) False Rumours Love We Had Sister Life Without Money Is It True You're Too Bad Be Careful Control Me Prophecy Dread You Make Me Feel So Good Africa Identify Yourself The Easy B is from 1999 - British production from Jet Star's Cave Studio with Tony Phillips and some of the Ruff Cutt crew playing and it's a solid set which I'll have to spin some more. Some nice foundation rhythms even a cut to "Real Rock". Good singer and I don't recall seeing much else from him - maybe another album. I've only heard the tunes on Fire Pashon's MySpace page and wasn't especially excited by the riddims she's on but I'll keep a look out for any more coming out. I can be a bit boring - keener to buy an upteenth cut of something old and sweet than to try something all new. ;D I've quite a few albums by her father and not too many singles just a few 7" and 12" but I am lucky enough to have that discomix of Hard Time Pressure on Sufferer's Heights 12" - absolutely essential! I have it on the Black Roots CD but without Sinbad. I didn't think the discomix was available on anything but I see it's on "Herbman Hustling" from Heartbeat. Anyone who doesn't have it should buy that, for sure. PS - check ya PM Riffy ...

I didn't realise you could buy plastic CD covers ! You'd lost me there Spear - are you talking about the top two? If so, they're just in the factory shrink. I carefully cut a slot at the other side with a craft knife (crazy dude ;D) to slide the jewel case in and one. Just like you might split the shrink on a 12" but leave it on the record. Eccentric collector business.

Patti sure covers hard to handle well. I've always loved that tune. Otis sends me into euphoria with that. As long as I'm the topic, have you heard "Who left the water runnin?" by Otis. It's kind of one of his more obscure tunes, but it's so crucial I think. I always make sure people who love soul know about "who left the water runnin?". Please check your pm Freddy. ;D
Bless
