Is he still around? I think he owned TR Groovemaster and possibly Jam Rock. Outside of a few Virgin Frontline albums and BAF's Trinity set are any of his productions available?
Actually I aso picked up Barry Brown "Mafia" 7'' on TR repress which I assume Mr. Robinson was behind but anything else, or does anyone have more information on the man?

Well, I used to know him Fred back in the 1970s. In those days he wore a razor round his neck. I presumed it was for cutting cocaine though it had a blunted edge. I think these razors were very fashionable back then especially among these rock star types who wore shortie leather jackets and had layered longish hair in true South Molton Street style. I think they were more for affectation than Charles though. Tony was never much of a producer though I did love his Gladiators set and the Big Youth he put out on Klik. His U Roy set with Virgin was pretty good too. Haven't seen anything produced by him for it has to be 25 years now.

looking at RKR, before Groovemaster in the mid 70's, he also ran the High School International label in the early 70's releasing 7's by the likes of Dennis Alcapone.

Yow Freddy... I think it was Solid Windup [if Mr. aka is on this board, how will we ever know ] that mentioned TR was living in Texas - and I'm pretty sure I heard that from someone else too... The latest thing I saw from TR was a CD called Reggae Hits After Hits [1995] - included a few 70's tunes - then there's a couple weird songs about the OJ Simpson trial [how could they not be weird] - but even stranger - and good - is a song or two by Vivian Jones. Never knew Vivian Jones worked with him. TR could put out several crucial CDs if he gathered up a bunch of his 45s. Nice board here...

Thanks for the info. Semi. TR could put out several crucial CDs if he gathered up a bunch of his 45s. I would have thought so. Might even sell, too.

Ranking Joe's debut lp "The Best Of Ranking Joe" was produced by Tony Robinson and in my opinion is essential. It should be reissued.

Is that the LP where he's referred to as Little Joe?

Speaking of the razors around the neck. One thing that always looked really wrong to me was Ranking Joe on the cover to his Natty Superstar album where he has a razor hanging around his neck. Since it's in gold I can only presume that it's a fashion thing ... but still it strikes me as really odd. Was Ranking Joe known to use crack?
